25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Wall
Went to the event celebrating the fall of the wall between Eastern and Western Germany. The city was packed with people gathered around the ribbon of lights symbolically representing the wall where it once stood.
At 7.30pm, the lights, in fact helium ballons, were released one by one, effectively tearing down the wall. The symbolic was strong, unfortunately the reality was something else: the whole process was incredibly slow paced, the ballons once detached became transparent, almost impossible to see on the night sky and that was it, no big crazy celebration, no fireworks, no music, nothing. In the end, it was rather lacklustre...
